Investor readiness planning for Australian founders
Investor readiness is the work of making your venture understandable and your evidence easy to discuss. OCAYE helps Australian founders clarify their strategy, progress and next questions before approaching potential investment partners.
Talk through your next move ↗Explain the venture in a direct way
A clear investor conversation starts with a concise account of the customer, problem, proposed value and current stage. Explain what changed your understanding and what remains uncertain. Avoid broad claims that cannot be backed up. A focused narrative helps a listener assess the opportunity and ask useful questions without needing to decode jargon.
Australian founders may speak with people familiar with local conditions as well as partners who need context about the initial market. Be specific about where research has taken place and avoid implying that early evidence represents every state, sector or customer type.
- Prepare a plain-language venture summary.
- Label assumptions and early signals clearly.
Make evidence reviewable
Readiness improves when key statements have a source. Organise customer learning, product decisions, usage information if available, team responsibilities and planning assumptions. Keep dates and definitions consistent. If a measure is preliminary, explain how it was collected and what it can and cannot show instead of presenting it as proof of future performance.
A hypothetical example: if several interviewees describe the same manual task, report the number and method of conversations, then say that further validation is needed. Do not convert a small research sample into a market-wide statistic or customer endorsement.
- Match each important claim to a note, source or stated assumption.
- Keep a concise list of unresolved questions.
Connect the plan to a next milestone
A funding discussion is more useful when the founder can explain what the next phase is intended to establish. Describe the milestone, why it matters to the strategy, the capabilities needed and the main uncertainties. Keep forecasts visibly separate from historical evidence and explain the assumptions behind them.
This preparation supports a grounded conversation; it cannot guarantee that a venture will raise capital, receive a particular valuation or attract a specific investor. Funding decisions remain with independent investment partners.
Prepare for questions, not a script
Investors may challenge the customer definition, alternatives, distribution, team capacity or timing. Practise answering with evidence where possible and saying what you still need to learn where it is not. A useful readiness process surfaces weak points early enough for founders to decide whether to research, revise or explain them.
OCAYE helps you frame that preparation clearly. Bring the questions you find hardest to answer and the evidence you already have so we can discuss a useful next step.
